Verse 11Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; Verse 12the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; Verse 13let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. Verse 14Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Devotion
There are instruments that can tell us precisely what time it is, down to a nanosecond. But Paul is referring to a different kind of clock. He speaks not in terms of what we might read on a wristwatch. Rather, he is calling us to watch for the coming Lord. That is a new time, an altogether different time. It is more than counting the hours. It is a matter of counting on God and watching for Christ.
Prayer
Timely and timeless God, be with us in our time and for all time. Help us to discern the signs of the times and still see your presence, for salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers. Amen.
