LBW #360, "O Christ, the Healer, We Have Come"
Devotion
This hymn is the cry of the wounded. It is not the prayer of an individual who has come to be cured by a faith healer. It is a cry from within the community for the health of the community. There is no "I,” "Me," or "My own" language here! We, who are bound together in Christ, experience all the pain and failure that go with being human – even "conflicts that destroy our health."
We are called to come together, pray together and seek one another’s' welfare as well as our own. We even find in our own pain a bond with "the world's disease.” Our prayer is that in our connectedness we experience the wholeness that enriches us. This prayer is not even for a CURE! It's for enrichment within Christ's community, pain and all, for the world's sake.
Prayer
Lord, help us to find some measure of healing in our willingness to stand with one another. Amen.
