Verse 1Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in their hearts; there is no fear of God before their eyes.
Verse 2For they flatter themselves in their own eyes that their iniquity cannot be found out and hated.
Verse 3The words of their mouths are mischief and deceit; they have ceased to act wisely and do good.
Verse 4They plot mischief while on their beds; they are set on a way that is not good; they do not reject evil.
Verse 5Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.
Verse 6Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgments are like the great deep; you save humans and animals alike, O Lord.
Verse 7How precious is your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
Verse 8They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
Verse 9For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
Verse 10O continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your salvation to the upright of heart!
Verse 11Do not let the foot of the arrogant tread on me, or the hand of the wicked drive me away.
Verse 12There the evildoers lie prostrate; they are thrust down, unable to rise.
Devotion
On this day we meditate on the fact that Jesus entered into depths of human life even unto death. Those who acted against Jesus had no fear of God. Yet in life’s darkest moments, we know that “in God’s light, we see light.” Even in the valley of the shadow of death and despair, we know God’s steadfast love and tender mercies. Indeed as Easter Sunday shows us, “with God is the fountain of life,” the abundant life.
Prayer
Life-giving Spirit, be our fountain of life. Light up our lives with the Easter good news that Jesus is our ever-flowing fountain of life. Amen.
