LBW #425, “O God of Mercy, God of Might”
Devotion
Amy, a bright 3-year-old, was recently in a car accident with her parents and 6-year-old sister. The car was totaled and all were hospitalized. Amy had bumps and bruises, but nothing that wouldn't heal.
The emotional bruises are another story. They will last longer. Following their release from the hospital, the family was eating supper with us when all of a sudden, out of the blue, Amy said, “I had a bad day!”
“You what?” I asked.
“I had a bad day.”
“In the hospital?” I asked.
“No, in the car; the wreck,” she said as she sipped her orange juice.
Amy is fortunate to be alive and I hope she never loses her innocence and openness to say “I had a bad day.” It is a lesson in sharing our pain with others. May we learn from the Amy's of the world and share our burdens with one another.
“In sickness, sorrow, want, or care,
Each other's burdens help us share;
May we, where help is needed, there,
Give help as though to you.”
Prayer
Compassionate God, use us this day to be instruments of hope, joy, and peace. Amen.
