WOV #682, "Praise the Spirit in Creation"
Devotion
I believe that I cannot, by my own reason or strength, believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called, gathered, enlightened and sanctified me...
Luther may have spoken truths which I have come to love, but I would have rephrased those truths in more blunt words. Such as: the Holy Spirit has yanked my chain, opened my eyes, startled me with truth and saturated me with faith.
Joyfully I call the Spirit: wild, alive, hounding and persistent. It is the fire and wind of God. Go, bask in the Spirit's flame. Expect to be both burned and healed. As we pray "descend in might,” dare to expect more than we may have wanted.
Prayer
Spirit of God, we often forget that you have teeth. In retrospect, we rejoice in reproach as we have rejoiced in your caress; in your interruption as in your invitation. As we go into this day, leave us never. Amen.
