LBW #561, "For the Beauty of the Earth"
Devotion
The Seraphs of Isaiah 6 glorify the Lord who rules over creation. Our obedience to the Lord of creation is in stewardship and thanksgiving.
In the Pacific Northwest, as in many parts of the country, long days and majestic sunsets are cause for celebration and thanksgiving. From the vistas of Whidbey Island we see great splendor in the beauty of the earth. The sun sets over the majestic Olympic range, the new moon glistens over the watery vale of the Puget Sound and stars grow in appearance as the shining lights of cities to the east wink and glow in the gathering darkness.
For the wonder of each hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale and tree and flow’r
Sun and moon and stars of light
Christ our Lord, to you we raise
This our sacrifice of praise.
Prayer
Creating God, in wonder and joy we praise and thank you for the marvelous gift you have so freely given. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
