WOV #781, "My Life Flows On in Endless Song"
Devotion
“No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that Rock I’m clinging. Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?” So goes the refrain from the song, “My Life Flows On in Endless Song.” The trouble is there are times in my life when I haven’t felt much like singing.
Don’t misunderstand me, it’s a beautiful song, and one I really do love to sing. But I have a hunch we’ve all known times when we either didn’t remember the words or else we’d altogether forgotten the tune and so we couldn’t very well sing.
It’s been during those times in my life when the Christian faith community has sung for me until that day came when once again I could raise my voice in song and sing: “No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that Rock I’m clinging. Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?”
Prayer
Holy God, even when the storms do come along and shake our inmost calm, help us cling to our Rock and our Redeemer so that we can keep on singing. And in those times when we just can’t hit the notes, would you send someone to hum a few bars for us until we can? Amen.
