Verse 22The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; Verse 23they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Verse 24"The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him." Verse 25The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. Verse 26It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Verse 27It is good for one to bear the yoke in youth, Verse 28to sit alone in silence when the Lord has imposed it, Verse 29to put one's mouth to the dust (there may yet be hope), Verse 30to give one's cheek to the smiter, and be filled with insults. Verse 31For the Lord will not reject forever. Verse 32Although he causes grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; Verse 33for he does not willingly afflict or grieve anyone.
Devotion
The beginning of another long board meeting began with prayer. The prayer ended like this: “Thanks, Lord, for listening. You have a good day also.”
God’s promises are clear. God does not promise good health, a happy marriage or well-adjusted children. God does not promise smooth sailing. It seems that smooth sailing is on back order. Scripture is clear – we are told to expect trials, heartache, betrayal, fear and frailty.
God’s promises are also clear. God has promised us forgiveness, acceptance, a wild and passionate love. God has promised to journey with us and to hear our prayers. God has promised that we are not alone. From the womb of our birth to our final breath God is the one constant.
With this word I am free to live, love and complain. That word is enough for me. It will take me through this day – whatever this day may hold.
Prayer
Good and Gracious God, I do not know what this day will bring, but I am happy that you will be there with me. I do not know what this day may hold, but I am thankful that you will hold me. Thanks for listening and you have a good day also. Amen.
