WOV #754, "Let Us Talents and Tongues Employ"
Devotion
We are “called and sent.” Too often we view ourselves as recipients of God’s gifts and forget that we are also sent to give those gifts to the world. We not only receive; we also “bear fruit” in a world that doubts the story.
We share in the great meal of the church, the bread and wine first blessed by Jesus and given to his disciples. The meal unites us with all the disciples of all times and places. We go out from the Lord’s table with Jesus on our breath. We invite those who have not been fed to come and eat and we tell the story.
Jesus is God with us, Immanuel. We often hear of being “bound by sin.” Jesus unbinds the world so that earth can breathe again. He is not just for us. He is for everyone. Everyone can eat, and everyone can breathe.
Prayer
Free us from the weight of sin that sits on our chests and keeps us from breathing in the gifts you have prepared for us. Free us to share ourselves and our story with the world. Free us, Lord. In the name of Jesus who makes us free, Amen.
