LBW #499, "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing"
Devotion
I love people with gumption and who stand up for what’s right and for what they believe. I admire people who don’t use double standards and who strive for the best they can be.
The readings this week guide us beyond ourselves into the path that God wants for us. It’s a path that requires us to be bold and righteous in the face of the likes of Herod’s sin.
Because Jesus chose the cross, he chose to show us the path that is the source of every blessing, the root of every gumption and the foundation of every stand. What Jesus has done for us on the cross is the truth of what we truly believe. What more do we need to guide our path!
Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Calls for songs of loudest praise.
Prayer
Crucified Christ, who leads our ways and guides our lives; be with us and give us gumption, courage and a will to strive for what’s right in the world. Thank you for Jesus and for his cross, where he shows us the true fount of every blessing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
