LBW #425, "O God of Mercy, God of Light"
Devotion
...Oh hear us lest we stray and fall! We rest our hope in you.
One day while in college I drove into town for a haircut. The barber, James, learned that I was attending the Bible college up the hill. We all know how conversations while under the shears go – the one in the chair always wonders how deep the sharing should get.
“So you’re a Christian then?” he asked.
“Yep.”
“Are you born again, son?”
“Well, I was baptized when I was an infant, so I guess I am.”
James commented about being born again and receiving the Holy Spirit and our conversation went another direction. Later, I thought I would have liked to tell James that I’m born again each morning.
Why do I remember this conversation? It is that I cannot have faith in my own confidence. My heart and head are together in this venture of faith. At times my prayer is something like “Oh hear us lest we stray and fall.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus on the cross, you take my sin and give me holiness. Let that be how I live. Amen.
