Devotion
"The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season." I live in rural eastern Oregon. We grow apples, cherries, grapes, wheat, peas and asparagus here. This is a country of seasons for produce. What a joy when the cherries are ripe for picking and juicy, fresh-picked corn is twelve for a dollar.
Being given our food in "due season" has something to do with waiting, but it has much more to do with joy and abundance. In due season, the food has a freshness you would die for. In due season, there is an abundance that makes sharing the only sensible way to live. In due season, you learn to appreciate God’s timing. In due season, God opens His hand and all the faithful bless Him.
We need seasons. Not only do they teach us patience, but much more they demonstrate the Lord’s lavish love.
Prayer
Lord, let me be in those places where you open your hand. I would learn to see and give thanks. Amen.
