WOV #779 "You Who Dwell in the Shelter of the Lord"
Devotion
Very few 21st century US Americans who read these devotions are familiar with famine. And, I’m not sure how many readers have witnessed the panic of birds drug into captivity right out of the wild.
On a wall in a cellar in Cologne, Germany there is an inscription written by a victim of the Nazis during WWII. “I believe in the sun even when it’s not shining. I believe in love even when not feeling it. I believe in God even when he is silent.” – from Rabbi Benjamin Blech.
Maybe my own experience isn’t what is needed to give strength to these words of faith. Perhaps the witness of my neighbor suffering from cancer as her three-year-old daughter looks on is what empowers me to sing even more loudly. Maybe it’s the body of Christ singing this song of faith with one voice.
My shield may look feeble … but God’s wing is impenetrable.
Prayer
My God and my refuge, I thank you for the community of faith that you have given birth to, and ask that you guide and direct faith’s growth in you. Amen.
