WOV #784 “You Have Come Down to the Lakeshore”
Devotion
“You need my hands, my exhaustion, working love for the rest of the weary…a love that’s willing to go on loving. Sweet Lord, you have looked into my eyes; kindly smiling, you’ve called out my name. On the sand I have abandoned my small boat; now with you, I will seek other seas.”
On Wednesday James reminded us of the royal law: to love our brothers/sisters as ourselves. This wonderful hymn reminds us of our calling in the words “working love for the rest of the weary…a love that’s willing to go on loving.” Our “Sweet Lord” has smiled kindly upon us. He calls us to bring his smile to others.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, for your sake and for the sake of others we have jumped ship, leaving behind what used to seem so important in order to join you in yours. Wherever the seas of life lead us, we pray for your presence to guide us and protect us. Make us useable aboard your ship so that others might come to know you through us.
