Nainua Macho I Lift My Eyes (Hymn of Tanzania)
Devotion
I lift my eyes to a place far away and see great wonder
God has created all that we see; indeed it is God alone.
When I behold all these things, they reveal to me
His greatness, all praise belongs to God
Indeed it is God alone.
We have fallen (all of us); we have denied Him, friends
Why does He let His goodness be seen by us?
Jesus the Savior
Refrain:
Who does all things, and He has made all things
He has made all things perfectly
And when I behold all that He has done, I love Him.
To listen to the Tanzanians lift their voices in praise of God is to hear the angels sing. Rarely was a hymnbook used; they sang their theology by heart with joy and rhythm.
This hymn speaks a theology of praise, hope, brokenness and conviction that God is indeed our Creator and our Redeemer.
Prayer
Gracious God, lift my eyes to a place far away. Let me see the wonder of your creation. Reveal to me your goodness. Fill my heart with joy. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.
