LBW #433,"The Church of Christ, in Every Age"
Devotion
About the text of this hymn, its author, Frederick Pratt Green, writes: "They wanted a hymn which tackled the relationship of Sabbath and Sunday." (Hymnal Companion to the LBW, p. 464)
Ah ... yes ... the Sunday/Monday connection. Away from the comfortable confines of our church buildings, how do we live out and live in our faith? Do our actions really help the poor, the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the prisoner and the sick; or do we just think we help? How seriously do we "sell what we have" and follow Jesus? Can we be considered as one of Jesus’ faithful disciples?
Prayer
"Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may move every human heart, that the barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease, and that, with our divisions healed, we might live in justice and peace; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." (LBW p.42) Amen
