Devotion
When Imelda Marcos, first lady of the Philippines, arrived in the U.S. a number of years ago, she brought only some of her famous 3,000 pairs of shoes. Every day, $1,800 worth of fresh flowers was delivered to her apartment. Yet she assured the world that she was a poor peasant lady, not an extravagant spendthrift.
About that same time, my 10-year-old son was riding into town with me in my 14-year-old pickup that had more than 150,000 miles on it and was pretty much held together with baling wire. He posed this question: "Dad, are we rich?" I replied, "By many standards we are because we have food, a warm home, education and health care. But, I'm curious ... do you feel rich?” He said, “Yeah, sorta.”
Both Ms. Marcos and my son were correct ... she is poor and my son is rich. Wealth has more to do with the heart than the pocketbook.
Prayer
God, we bless and praise you that you provide and bless us with the wealth that matters. Amen.
