LBW #89, “How Good, Lord, to Be Here!”
Devotion
A student visited me one summer day after attending Bible Camp. He had a wonderful week. He made new friends and was impressed with his counselors’ faith. He studied the Bible and, for the first time, he heard it speak to his life. He was very moved by the worship around the campfire. He had never felt so loved by God and so close to Jesus as he did at the end of that week. When he returned home the glow of that week soon faded. He asked me: "Which is real; the way life was at camp, or the way life is at home?"
I’ve asked the same question. Both are real. God gives us the one to help us with the other. Is it irreverent to think that God gave Jesus the experience on the Mount of Transfiguration to prepare him for the experience of the Cross?
Prayer
Lord, we thank you for those special times when you seem so real and so close. May they help us through the times when it seems that you have forsaken us. Amen.
