Chapter 66Thus says the Lord: Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is my resting place? Verse 2All these things my hand has made, and so all these things are mine, says the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look, to the humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at my word.
Devotion
The Martins are back! my father exclaimed from the window. It was spring — time for snowbirds to return. "Who are the Martins?" my mother asked, trying to remember the family name. "The birds who live in our martin house!" I knew martins were special. They ate thousands of mosquitoes a day, yet were never short of food. My father worked hard to build a home to please them.
My father is no longer living; the old martin house sits empty. Someone has provided a better home. At times, we think God — like martins and billionaire owners of professional sports franchises — chooses to live with whoever builds him the best dwelling place. "Not so!" says God. "I can make my own home. Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool; I will dwell with those whom I humble, those in whom I work repentance."
Prayer
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
