Job 17:7 (NRSV)

Verse 7My eye has grown dim from grief, and all my members are like a shadow.
Devotion
Job does not suffer in silence. But though he cries to the Lord for deliverance, he does not “curse God and die” as his wife recommends. Indeed, “I know that my Redeemer lives,” Job says, “…then in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see on my side.” Job’s eyes have dimmed, but still he clearly sees the promise of resurrection and new life before him.
Prayer
God of light and life, when the things that weigh us down cloud our sight, become a beacon for us. Lift us from the shadow of our misfortune, so we, too, can see clearly, and say with confidence, “I know that my Redeemer lives.” Amen.
