LBW #481, “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us”
Devotion
“Savior, like a shepherd lead us; much we need your tender care; in your pleasant pastures feed us, for our use your fold prepare. Blessed Jesus, you have bought us; we are yours. We are yours; in love befriend us, be the guardian of our way; keep your flock from sin, defend us, seek us when we go astray. Blessed Jesus, hear us children when we pray.” (v.1-2)
God (and Jesus) as Shepherd is a powerful image that enters into much Christian poetry, art, and music. God is a Shepherd who protects, nourishes, guides, pulls us back when we tend to stray, and knows each sheep by name. This hymn summarizes for us the theme of the Good Shepherd that is dominant in all the lessons for the week.
Prayer
Thank you, God, for sending us Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who has affirmed, through his life, death, and resurrection, that all the promises of old continue today and in the life to come. We pray in his name. Amen.
