LBW #390, “I Love to Tell the Story”
Devotion
I grew up in an oral tradition, where stories are told and passed on from one generation to the next. Now, being a mom, I realize that to tell is also to listen. As a child I heard the story of Jesus over and over again, about the one (Jesus) who is the Lord mighty in deed, creator, redeemer, sustainer, protector, provider, comforter…He is the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit—God three in one. I experienced this mighty God as my own Lord and Savior and soon realized that I am called to tell others the story of Jesus.
Kate Hankey, writer of this hymn, felt the call to share the story of Jesus with “factory girls” in London. We as children of God are called to tell this wonderful story to all—to those who know and those who do not know. This old, old story gives new life to those who hear, believe and live by it. This is the message of salvation.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, please grant us your courage and your Spirit to tell your wonderful story to someone today. In your mighty name we pray, Amen.
