LBW 458, "Jesus, Priceless Treasure"
Devotion
Johann Franck, writer of this hymn, identifies that treasure as Jesus. Getting very personal, Franck says he aches for Jesus like that desert deer panting for a cool drink on a hot day. In stanza 2, he reassures himself and us that no matter how severe the storms of life, Jesus, Priceless Treasure, will not fail us.
In our Monday devotion we read of Solomon’s desire for that kind of relationship with God so he might lead Israel wisely. In the Romans passage for Wednesday, the Apostle Paul says that the treasure has, through Christ, been unearthed, so we need look no farther. Look no farther, God is on our side.
Prayer
Help us, Lord God almighty, to rest in you this day, assured that no matter what happens, you will not fail us. Amen.
