Chapter 1In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, Verse 2the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.
Verse 3Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. Verse 4And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. Verse 5God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
Devotion
I love beginnings! Whether it is the start of a new school year, a job, a friendship, a marriage, parenthood, a vacation, a round of golf, or even just another new day, I feel great anticipation and excitement.
That feeling is its strongest for me at the beginning of a new year. We are at the threshold of a vast, unexplored expanse of time called 2006. What wonderful experiences and discoveries await us!
May the reminder that our great God brought light at the beginning of creation be an added source of strength for you that God continues to bring light to every new beginning!
Prayer
God, our Creator, thank you for this new year. May your light shine brightly in our world, especially in those places where the darkness seems so overwhelming at times. Amen.
