LBW 87, "Hail to the Lord's Anointed"
Devotion
In our day, so-called younger churches throughout the world are the result of earlier mission efforts. So Christ's reign in human hearts far extends beyond the western world. In fact, the zeal of these "new Christians" outshines that of many in the sending churches. Those of us who have witnessed this first hand have been impressed.
The apostolic age began this worldwide appeal to reach those with ancestral and national religions. Christ's reign began to increase, reaching Europe and Africa rather quickly. Christians prayed and loved their neighbors into the fold. By the fourth century, they won over even the Roman government. The centuries since have left many still longing for a better world. Their prayers ascend in times of want and war to the greater Son of David, in hope that he will usher in a time of peace and plenty.
Prayer
Lord, like the magi, we offer you our most precious gifts. Our fondest hopes are pinned on you. Amen.
