LBW 90, “Songs of Thankfulness and Praise”
Devotion
We are never so far removed from the Morning Star that it ceases to shine its light upon the world. We can still hear the angels sing, watch the shepherds marvel, see the infant Jesus smile upon us all. As Martin Luther said in one of his Christmas sermons: “Look upon him and know that in this little child is all your hope, your joy, your comfort, your salvation.”
Herod may have tried to dupe the Magi, but Christ still came into the world. Herod may have killed John the Baptist, but not before he baptized Jesus in fulfillment of scripture. Scribes and others tried stalling or stopping his way, but Jesus accomplished his mission of love.
The people are healed, comforted, led from death to new life. The wonders of the Incarnation – God in the flesh – shine upon us all. Songs of thankfulness and praise we raise forevermore.
Prayer
Dear Christ, thank you for bringing your heaven-sent love in the flesh. Amen.
