Devotion
This psalm prepares us for Transfiguration Sunday. Zion, the ancient name of Jerusalem, continues to be used in the Christian tradition to identify the remnant of God’s faithful people.
From this remnant Christ is “the perfection of beauty; God shines forth.” He lives among us through the Holy Spirit to forgive us our sins and teach us how to live for God’s glory. He judges his people with equity. His justice brings salvation to the afflicted that call upon his name. He is the one who has “made a covenant” with the sacrifice of his holy and precious blood.
The mission of the church is to “gather to me my faithful ones.” By faith we understand that “the heavens declare his righteousness.” We worship a wonderful God who has come to us and has spoken to us by his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, put your holy fire in our hearts that we may declare your righteousness. Amen.
