Verse 3And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. Verse 4In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Verse 5For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus' sake. Verse 6For it is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Devotion
The Transfiguration of our Lord was accompanied by intense light. After Moses spoke to God on Mt. Sinai, his face shone so brightly that he had to veil his face.
Agonizing over their rejection of the Gospel, Paul likened their hard-heartedness to a veil, blinding the minds of unbelievers “to keep them from seeing the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” Jesus declared himself to be the light of the world. By faith, we see the “glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” This is the work of God’s “new creation.” God’s light continues to “shine out of darkness” on us.
Our calling is to “proclaim Jesus as Lord” so that the Holy Spirit may remove the veil that covers the “minds of unbelievers” that they might see “the glory of Christ.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus, send your Spirit to open the eyes of all people to see your glory. Amen.
