Verse 34The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
Devotion
Ponder alien. What does it conjure? Little green men? Apocalypse? Or, ratcheted down on the stranger scale, someone of a different tribe? Like Angela, the one black girl in the second grade who smiled too big and ran too fast. Any way you cut it, the alien has no natural sympathy with you. So you must work and pray. Do heart surgery: there’s no difference on the inside. Remember your too-big smiles and that stranger within. Mercy!
Prayer
Freshen my memory, God. Let it sting again, that my heart might know, and repent, and open to the Other who needs your love through mine. Amen.
