Psalm 6:1 (NRSV)

Verse 1O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger, or discipline me in your wrath.
Devotion
I love one of the biggest clichés of courtroom scenes from movies and television. You know the one – the defendant’s guilt is revealed, and so with doe-eyed, tearful emotion calls out, “I throw myself at the mercy of the court!” Apparently God does, too! And yet this is no cliché. It is the mercy of a one who rebukes and disciplines because he loves. It is true grace.
Prayer
God of grace, we pray for your forgiveness. In our complete guilt, we throw ourselves at your mercy, and humbly ask that you heal us and deliver us despite the anger and pain you must feel for our sin. Thank you for hearing us and for saving us. Amen.
