Devotion
When was the last time your congregation tried a new song? Did people like it, or do they just want to sing something familiar? The Lord is doing new things all the time. So it ought not to surprise us when a composer comes up with a new melody and fits it to the words of a new poet.
What the Lord did in the past is to be remembered. That's why the church year follows our Lord's life and ministry. The first Easter was the world's most important event. We hear about it and sing about it the whole Easter season.
But what happened to you and to your fellow members on Easter? Did you break out all the instruments and hear from all the choirs? Did some lost soul get found by the Lord? Did the trees in bloom rejoice with you? Christians all over the world are singing heartily just now.
Prayer
Lord, did the ancient poet know that his words would continue to inspire us for so many years? Thanks for causing people to write and sing in every age. Amen.
