Verse 1Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers;
Verse 2but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night.
Verse 3They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.
Verse 4The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Verse 5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
Verse 6for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Devotion
I would love to delight in doing whatever the Lord wants. Sometimes I think I am. But then in retrospect, I’m not sure. I think I know what the Lord wants, but then I hear someone say just the opposite.
In the Bible, people came to all sorts of conclusions about the will of God. They acted after examining their hearts and considering God’s desires as they perceived them. They didn't all agree with one another, but they all tried to be faithful in their decision-making.
Maybe the Lord is more concerned about how we walk in his steps than about the decisions we make. In other words, it is our process of determining what the Lord wants that matters. Our actions may be on different ends of the spectrum. Isn’t that all right as long as we are centered in our basis of reaching those actions? What matters is that we act out of our faith, life and conscience.
Prayer
Lord, may we bear fruit each season, seeking your will in all we do. Amen.
