Devotion
Where is this peace promised by God? Newspaper headlines remind us vividly that instead of peace we experience turmoil, conflict, war; and with that, anger, dissension and waning hope. For many, “peace” means the absence of conflict. For the Christian, “peace” is much more.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you” (John 14:27).
To have the peace that God promises and Jesus affirms, I need to trust in God – even when circumstances peak otherwise. When I seek peace on my terms, I am never satisfied. When I trust God and release to God all that I am and have, I find peace that satisfies and gives me the strength to live today.
Prayer
God of peace, my efforts to find peace end in frustration and dissatisfaction. I accept your promise and anticipate your peace and the strength to let that peace guide my life. Amen.
