RW 263, “Calm to the Waves”
Devotion
Music, as we all know from experience, has a way of setting the mood for worship. “Calm to the Waves” is written to be repeatedly chanted by a cantor or a congregation. This Sunday our congregation will sing this refrain at different points in worship: near the beginning to set the tone of Jesus calming and preparing us for worship; and maybe before and after the sermon, which focuses on Jesus calming the storms of life.
Listen carefully today – and each day – to hear, as this hymn says, Jesus whispering to you, “Peace! Be still!” May Jesus, the one present at the creation of the world, the one with authority to calm the wind and the sea, the one who casts out demons and forgives sins, grant you his peace.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, speak your words of peace to us today so that we may know you more fully. Use us to be instruments of peace and calm within a world too often filled with chaos and confusion. Amen.
