LBW 347, “Jerusalem the Golden”
Devotion
In mercy, Jesus, bring us to that dear land of rest. That is how John Neale translates Bernard of Cluny’s 12th century text.
Today, Bernard’s town of Cluny in the south of France is restful while Jerusalem is not. Perhaps our prayer should be a paraphrase of the hymn: Jesus, in mercy, help to bring rest to that dear land; and mercy, justice and compassion through us.
Prayer
God of all lands, be with the homeland of Jesus and all its peoples. Bring them rest. Amen.
