LBW 367, "Christ is Made the Sure Foundation"¯
Devotion
The church is deeply indebted to hymn writers. This hymn is traced back to the 7th century, a time referred to as the Dark Ages.¯ But there is a splendid confession of faith in these words that remind us that the church was alive and faithful during that turbulent time.
That confession makes these ancient hymns contemporary. They focus on Christ, "our head and cornerstone."¯ They bind us with the saints of all ages by declaring, "Christ is made the sure foundation."¯ We join the saints of all ages who sing "praise and honor to the Father ... to the Son¯ ... to the Spirit, ever three and ever one."
What other foundation would we want?
Prayer
Holy God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we give thanks for your undying love for the world. Amen.
