LBW 368, "I Love Your Kingdom, Lord"
Devotion
This hymn helps us to express our faith in a wonderful way. It also teaches us that prayer consists not so much of words, but of our openness to God and our attitudes toward other people.
The kingdom of God was the essence of Jesus' message. He came to Galilee proclaiming the good news, saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news"¯ (Mark 1:15). Jesus is the heart of the kingdom and the revealer of God (John 1:18). It is in the church, the gathered people of God, where the kingdom is experienced in word and sacrament.
We join the hymn writer in confessing, "Beyond my highest joy, I prize its heavenly ways, its sweet communion, solemn vows, its hymns of love and praise."¯
Prayer
Lord Jesus, we do love your kingdom. Help us to love it more. Amen.
