LBW 360, “O Christ, the Healer, We Have Come”
Devotion
“Oh, leave these jargons, and go your way straight to God’s work, in simplicity and singleness of heart.” -- Florence Nightingale
The 1854 Crimean War introduced the world to the horrors of modern warfare and the incredibly wretched state at that time of medical care for the wounded. Today we commemorate Florence Nightingale, who, despite all obstacles, worked tirelessly for better and more humane medical treatment for the wounded and was herself invalided at age of 37 by her constant efforts.
“O Christ, the Healer, We Have Come” reminds us that all are in need of health and wholeness and that sin is indeed the world’s disease. Within the community of faith, we find healing for all our ills.
Prayer
Gracious healer, grant us healing for all brokenness of body and spirit, disease, and addiction. Grant reprieve from suffering and grant hope. May the certain promise of the resurrection carry us through life until we are reunited with you. Amen.
