Verse 4Say to those who are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you."
Verse 5Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; Verse 6then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; Verse 7the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp, the grass shall become reeds and rushes.
Devotion
Isaiah sang of a new day. He painted a picture of God coming to save his people. The prophet challenged God’s suffering people to live in hope that God would come to rescue them.
Hope is everything. People can survive terrible times only if they have hope.
Today we still need voices like Isaiah’s to sing of God’s new day. We need voices to remind us that suffering does not get the last word. We need voices to remind us that we await Jesus’ second coming, when God will put an end to suffering and death. We need voices to remind us that God is faithful and that God’s kingdom will come in its fullness.
We need voices to sing of God’s wonderful new day so that we will wait and hope.
Prayer
Come, Lord Jesus. Come and save us. Amen.
