LBW 396, “O God, O Lord of Heaven and Earth”
Devotion
Yesterday we looked at the funnels in this hymn. Today we see the megaphones.
Instead of our deathward drift, God wrote life with a living finger. God’s creative word is “life triumphant hurled.” Brokenness is healed.
Once before, the Holy Spirit restored the church from its deathward, inward caretaking to proclaiming Gospel to all – from funnels to megaphones. We pray in this hymn that God would breathe life once more on this “cloven church,” where we have funneled down into mutually-judging fragments. Where God does so breathe, funnels are turned into megaphones again, reformation happens and the reborn live lives of praise.
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, you have turned me from death to life. Guard me from turning back. Help me to live love not only in the world, but also in my congregation. In your name I live a life of praise. Amen.
