WOV 749, “When Love Is Found”
Devotion
This hymn catches the highs and lows of married life rather nicely. In verse one, the hymn catches the playful nature of young love with the words “when love explodes and fills the sky.” The hymn likens fireworks to God’s joy. Our joy in each other, then, is a reflection of God’s joy when partners find love, find each other.
The hymn won’t let us stay there. It recognizes the hard work and effort married life requires. Verse three talks about the changes life brings that can try a couple’s love. Yet with ears and eyes open, a couple can strive to understand one another and find a way, together, through the challenges life brings.
The final verse brings us to the source of our love and life together – Christ and Christ’s table, where our lives and relationships are renewed.
Prayer
Gracious God, continue to be a presence during the highs and lows of married life. Through Christ and the Lord’s Supper, strengthen us during times of trial and help couples find a way through life’s difficulties. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
