WOV 721, “Go, My Children, with My Blessing”
Devotion
No matter our age, we are children in God’s eyes. This hymn explores the many, many blessings God our Father provides – presence, love, healing, forgiveness, peace and the Spirit. The final line of each verse might be a summary of our faith lives: claimed by God in baptism, sins forgiven, fed and nourished, free and filled with joy.
This isn’t just for our benefit, though, as if faith were something private to protect us from the world. For early in verse three the writer notes that, as we grow in love, we’ll grow in serving. It is the work of the Spirit to give us the words and the compassion for this service.
The final verse reminds us of Christ’s gift of peace – the presence of Christ in our lives.
Prayer
Gracious God, you claim us as your children and bless us with every gift. Help us to use these gifts in lives of service to those in need that, as we grow in love and faith, our service grows too. Amen.
