Verse 3When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately,

Verse 6Many will come in my name and say, 'I am he!' and they will lead many astray.
Verse 7When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come.
Verse 8For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birthpangs.
Devotion
Beware that no one leads you astray. God’s words to Cain in Genesis 4 describe sin as crouching at the door. It is a predator, always near at hand, not only in the basic circumstances of life but within those who are closest to and most trusted by us. We all fall prey, quickly and easily led astray.
As a church leader, this is one of my greatest fears. Throughout its history, even from the kings and priests in Old Testament times, church leaders have often led people astray.
How important it is for us to remain grounded in God’s word, so that we do not act out of our own plans and desires, but in faithfulness to God. Centering our lives in Christ, turning to him in devotions and seeking his guidance and correction in all we do is essential to our humble calling as his servants.
Prayer
Lord God, we have such difficulty understanding your ways or following the path you set before us. Overcome our human desires, so that we might live as humble servants, directing others to your glory. Amen.
