WOV #781, “My Life Flows On in Endless Song”
Devotion
Most Sunday mornings, a certain gentleman is one of the first to arrive at church. He always responds to my “How are you?” with the simple response, “Peaceful.” I had heard that for a couple of years before I finally asked him about it.
He was a pilot in the Pacific during World War II. Many of his friends had been shot down by the time his turn came to lead an attack. All guns would be pointed at him. But as the moment of fire and terror came, he was overcome with a feeling of peace, with feeling that God was with him.
Now more than 60 years later, that feeling remains. Through the good and the bad – of which he’s had plenty throughout his life – the peace remains. He is a living example of inner calm through faith in Christ and a reflection of this song to me and the congregation.
Prayer
Lord, it is so difficult for us to be calm. Yet you still our souls and give us peace in the most fearful circumstances. Fill us with peace, so that we might trust in you in every moment of life. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
