LBW #559, "Oh, for a Thousand Tongues to Sing"
1 Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer's praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of his grace!
2 My gracious Master and my God,
Assist me to proclaim,
To spread through all the earth abroad
The honors of your name.
Devotion
Like a good pastor's kid, I sat on the front steps of the parsonage and sang at the top of my lungs all of the Sunday School songs I had learned at church and at home. This wouldn't have been an odd thing for a preschooler to do, but I wonder what kind of looks I would get from my neighbors if I were to do that on my front porch today? I truly do love to sing, but I don't do it nearly as often as I should. When I do, I feel exactly like that 4-year-old, uninhibited by any of the self-conscious trappings of being an adult. When I let my voice loose, my soul seems to fly upward toward heaven as if I were one of the angels singing praises to God.
Prayer
We sing your praises, O God! Tra la la, la, la! Alleluia! Gloria in excelsis deo! Amen.
