“If You But Trust in God to Guide You,” ELW 769 and LBW 453
Devotion
Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians and Jesus’ teaching about the last days bring with them the messages of participating in the work of this world and trusting that God will be with us, providing us with words and wisdom.
This hymn, written by Georg Neumark, picks up on those themes of trust and service. It reminds us that God’s gentle hand will be with us even in the trying times. God’s knows the fears we face and God’s love will never change. And so we are called to sing, pray and keep God’s ways, to offer our service faithfully and to trust in God’s promises.
Prayer
Gracious God, in a world of isolation and mistrust, guide us toward participation in the work of your kingdom. Help us to let go of our anger and distress and to trust in your safekeeping. Amen.
