Devotion
The days grow shorter and “our soul longs for flowing streams” of water and light. The darkness seems to be invading our days, cutting short our hopes and dreams. In the midst of the darkness, the twinkling lights of the season remind us of this life-giving light and water that seeps into our world. Ezekiel paints a glorious picture. Water flowing through the threshold of the temple, waters of life, abundant water, flowing ankle deep, knee deep, waist deep until we are swimming in this sacred river. All that is stagnant is held at bay. We dare to hope. First we tiptoe and then we wade. We learn to trust the buoyancy of grace. We find ourselves swimming!
Prayer
Holy One, splash our faces with baptismal waters, awaken us to your gracious presence in our lives. Quench our parched lives and parched world with your sacred river. Amen.
