Devotion
O God who saves, so many voices cry out in toil and tears amidst mirth and caroling. At the joy of new life, already it seems death creeps in to steal every exultation. How can we sing a new song this night? Still sundry are your children who bow under rods of oppression. Soldiers tramp about in boots through far-off lands, longing for their friends and families. Your manifold creatures great and small wander to and fro tormented by their human kin. How can we sing a new song this night?
Prayer
O God who saves, sing for us! Open our lips through your child, Jesus, that we might join in his cries. For the world shall begin anew this night with an infant’s song; it is his cries that shall sing for us: Glory to God in the highest! Amen.
