Verse 15But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man's trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many.
Devotion
We’ve all heard the adage, “There’s nothing free in this life.” But, in fact, there is something absolutely free—in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. God’s love for us has no strings attached. There is no fine print, no carefully worded conditions upon which God’s love depends. There are no background checks, no automatic disqualifications from this gift of gracious love. There is nothing we can or need do to receive this love. Though our sin convicts us, we have received “the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness” (Rom. 5:17). The hymnist writes, “Come, receive the gift I offer, turn to me and seek my face.” How could we not accept this gift?
Prayer
God, you seek us out. You bestow your unconditional love on us. You open your arms to us. As we have received this gift, may we offer it to others. Amen.
