Verse 7Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.
Devotion
When the eyes of Adam and Eve were opened in the garden of Eden, they saw themselves clearly. It was impossible for them to pretend they didn’t know what they’d done. Moving through Lent toward the cross and resurrection of Jesus, we can move into the reality of our sinfulness and the profound mystery of God’s forgiving love in Jesus. We can see ourselves as we truly are, confess we are “believers burdened,” and accept God’s invitation to leave behind our guilt and shame. God beckons us to “Come and seek the gift I offer.” As we accept that gift, we are renewed in our walk through Lent, seeing ourselves clearly and trusting more fully in God who also sees us clearly and loves us still.
Prayer
All-seeing God, you know all there is to know about us and yet love us still. Praise your holy name. Amen.
